Happy First Day!

I heard that you had a great first day! Congrats! I have been thinking of you ALL day! (Click read more below to continue reading and leave a comment!)

I even told all of my new friends that today was your first day back. I shared how excited I was for you, but also how sad I was to not be there with you. Today was sort of like a first day for me too. I had orientation where I got to meet my new classmates, professors, and advisors. I’m not going to lie, it was a little scary! Luckily, everyone is very nice and as excited to start classes as I am. I made friends with people who have lived in Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe. I am sure I will be able to learn a lot from them as we get to know each other better this year.

In making such a big deal about following my dreams and moving to DC, I think I forgot to mention that teaching at St. William was a dream of mine too. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a very little girl. I used to play school in my basement with old desks and a very small chalkboard. Sometimes I talked my neighbors into being students; sometimes I had a pretend class. No students I could have ever imagined were smarter, funnier, or sweeter than my St. William students.  I loved every minute of teaching you! That is why I am keeping this blog: to continue teaching you. I am in DC now, so look for some more posts in the next few weeks about my adventures and what I am learning from them! For example:  in an earthquake, take cover until the shaking stops! Then evacuate your building and wait for it to be inspected for damage before you go back inside. I will keep you posted on what I learn about hurricanes after Irene comes through this weekend!

  3. Margaret and Kelly, thank you so much for your concern! Irene ended up not being bad in DC, more like a windy storm than a Hurricane since DC was farther from it's path along the coast. Kelly, I enjoy your advice as well! I miss you both!

  5. Hi Ms.Zimmerman!! I know I am very late on letting you know how my 1st day was. My 1st day was upsetting knowing that you were not there. But some parts of the day were very happy! Stay safe and keep in touch! -Kristina ;)
