I am so lucky to have a cousin adventurous enough to work in Germany for a year! I am even luckier that she is letting me stay with her for two weeks! She has been working at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Garmisch-Partenkirchen used to be two small towns in the Southeastern part of Germany at the base of the Alps mountain range. Germany’s tallest mountain, the Zugspitze, is here! Adolf Hitler made the towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen join together in order to host the 1936 Winter Olympics. You can still visit the ski jump today! If you have seen the Sound of Music (my most favorite movie ever), then you have a pretty good idea what it looks like here. BEAUTIFUL! Read more for some pictures of the achievement of another life goal!
Now, you know I love to follow my dreams. I may have forgotten to tell you that one of my dreams was to visit Salzburg, Austria to see where the von Trapp family lived and where The Sound of Music was filmed. The good news is: I got to fulfill my dream this summer! Laura and her friend Kaitlin took me to Salzburg, it is only a two hour drive from where they live, and we went on the 4 hour Sound of Music Tour!!! Below are some pictures that my friends were patient enough to let me take whenever I recognized something from the movie; enjoy!

This is in the dwarf garden in Mirabell Gardens. Mirabell Gardens is a beautiful park that is seen a lot in the “Do-Re-Mi” scene. The gardens are attached to the Mirabell Palace, which was built in 1606. They were opened to the public in 1854.
Maria and the von Trapp children run around this fountain while singing “Do-Re-Mi” in Mirabell Gardens!
And then they hop around on these steps and finish singing “Do-Re-Mi.”
You can't dance in the gazebo like Liesl and Rolfe anymore, so we posed outside of it!
The veranda (big back porch) and view from the back of this palace was used in the movie. When the kids fall out of the boat, they fall into this lake!
Check back next week for some information about the Nazi hospital that I lived in for two weeks! Lots of Number the Stars connections!
If you click on the location link beneath the post, it should take you to a google map of Salzburg!
